MYTHS ABOUT EYELASHES EXTENSIONS

More frequently, we hear questions like, ‘will my lashes be destroyed after lash extensions?’, ‘Why do the same eyelashes look different to me than on my friends?’, ‘Is it true that I should not wash eyelashes extensions?’.

In this blog post, we will discuss some myths and truths about eyelash extensions.

MYTH 1: EYELASH EXTENSIONS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE AND CAN IRRITATE YOU

True: Only if you do not visit a professional. The eyelash extension process itself does not hurt and should not be uncomfortable. When a stylist applies eyelash extensions to your natural lash, you should not feel any discomfort during the process. Pay attention to whom you trust your eyes!

If you are uncomfortable during the procedure and your eyes hurt after the application, or you feel a tingling sensation in your eyelid and irritation, then you should contact your stylist and seek medical assistance. If the eyelash extensions are applied correctly, then you should not feel any discomfort but untrained lash artists can cause errors, which could lead to you suffering the consequences.

MYTH 2: EYELASH EXTENSIONS CAN DESTROY OUR NATURAL EYELASHES

False: If your stylist uses verified and quality materials and is regularly educated in the field of eyelash extensions then there will be no damage to your natural lashes. It is important that eyelash extensions are not too heavy or too long relative to natural lashes.

Any good stylist will be fully trained to know exactly what length and thickness will suit each individual client to ensure no damage occurs to the natural lash. During the eyelash extension process, it is important for your stylist to isolate natural eyelashes, this means the eyelashes that are in the telogen phase and the new eyelashes can grow out. Improper lengthening of the eyelashes can cause permanent damage to the eyelashes.

One of the most important facts is that the client should NEVER remove the eyelash extensions themselves, as you can damage natural lashes. It is unlikely clients will safely know how to remove eyelash extensions so it is best to visit a professional.

MYTH 3: ALL EYELASH EXTENSIONS ARE THE SAME AND LOOK THE SAME

False: There is plenty of variety of lash extensions to suit every clients’ needs and desired style, we have lengths from 4 mm up to 14 mm and more and there are various curve styles and thicknesses available for your lash extensions. For volume extensions we use thicknesses between 0.03 and 0.07 and for classic extensions we used thicknesses  0.10, 0.12, and 0.15.

It is important for the stylist to consult with the client and ask them what eyelash extension they want and advise them as to what is most suitable for her natural lash, eye shape and face.

This means that extensions won’t look the same on each individual.

Why?

Because even if they have the same curl and length of artificial eyelashes, it won’t always look the same as they will eventually fall out differently on different eyes and faces. Some eyes are smaller, others larger and they are different shapes – this is why the extensions will not always look the same.

The number of natural lashes also varies, which may also depend on the density of the final look. The point of eyelash extensions is that we accentuate our eyes in the best way, we always want each client to leave with the best possible results and what may look great on a friend may not look good on you.

MYTH 4: MASCARA CAN BE USED ON EYELASH EXTENSIONS

False: The main question is, why use mascara on a lash extension when they already have the desired uplifting effect on their own? Secondly, mascara and eyelash extensions do not go together at all, so it is very important that you do not use mascara over the eyelash extensions.

The mascara sticks eyelash extensions together and it’s hard to clean off. This also means we then struggle to clean our lash extensions, especially when it comes to volume lashes, where the mascara gets between the multiple layers.

So, can you use mascara with lash extensions? Definitely not, unless you want to risk wasting the time and money you invested having your lash extensions applied.

MYTH 5: EYELASH EXTENSIONS SHOULD NOT BE WASHED

False: This is one of the biggest mistakes a customer can make. Eyelash extensions should be regularly washed, ideally twice a day. This should be done with a light foam cleanser and brush and should be done so with care. How long do lash extensions last? This can be determined by how well you maintain them.

Extensions will not fall out if we wash them regularly, in fact, washing them gives the opposite outcome – they will last longer. If we do not wash them, we risk the extensions falling out earlier, due to oil and dirt. You could also be at risk of infection such as blepharitis if you do not maintain proper hygiene.
